World Maritime Day Webinar 2025 Successfully Held
On 25 September 2025, the World Maritime Day Webinar brought together maritime professionals, academics, and industry representatives. This year’s theme was “Navigating Our Future: Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity.”
The webinar highlighted three key areas:
Our Ocean: its role in regulating the climate, its economic value, and the threats it faces
Our Obligation: protecting marine resources, international conventions, and sustainable practices
Our Opportunity: the blue economy, renewable energy, green shipping technologies, and new job opportunities
At the event, Doğukan Şimşek delivered a remarkable speech focusing on the sustainability vision for young seafarers and the opportunities that next-generation maritime technologies will bring to the industry.
In addition, several distinguished speakers shared their expertise:
Sean Moloney (CEO of Elaborate Communications, LISW management)
Dr. Fabio Ballini (Associate Professor of Maritime Energy Management, WMU)
Christopher Corbin (Coordinator, UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat)
Sharon Coveney (Deputy Chief Executive, MNWB; recipient of the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service)
Patricia R. Francis, CD (Former Executive Director of ITC, Chair of Jamaica’s Trade Facilitation Task Force)
The webinar delivered powerful messages on ocean conservation, green shipping, and the blue economy, all of which will help shape the future of the maritime sector. Participants agreed that with international cooperation and innovative solutions, a sustainable maritime industry is within reach.
